Come join Emerald Eagle and his six animal friends, each with differing abilities, as they go on an inspiring quest for adventure that changes their lives and most certainly will change yours. In pursuit of a common goal, the animal friends must confront a series of challenges while hiking, climbing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and downhill skiing. These activities test their friendship, courage, and teamwork while serving to unite them as they discover new independence along the way.

Mark A. Andrews, author

Barb Wallace, artist

Mark Andrews is the author, director and executive producer of Meet

Me At The Mountain, the first of its kind interactive multi-sensory adventure. Meet Me At

The Mountain, a new art form, is a unique children’s literary and musical experience,

where the narrative of the story shapes the substance of the music, and the music

shapes the plot of the story. A self-described “authorpreneur,” Andrews states, “it was

always my intent to produce Meet Me At The Mountain in multiple formats -- inviting

everyone to enjoy the important inspirational messages conveyed this story. And now, I

am pleased to report that we have accomplished our dream!” To our knowledge,

MMATM is the only children’s book produced in six types of communications medium.

Music/The Story is sung by the Troublesome Creek String Band

Recording for Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) – National Library – (members only)

Andrews is a recipient of the American Institute for Public Service prestigious

Jefferson Award for outstanding community service. He was recognized for his 25+

years of volunteerism and service, providing adaptive outdoor programs for wounded

warriors, disabled veterans and their families, cancer survivors, and persons with

physical and developmental disabilities.

Through his unique approach to teaching, coaching, guiding and mentoring,

Andrews emboldens adaptive students/clients to set goals and to strive for functional

independence. His belief that ALL persons learn and benefit by being provided with

opportunities to develop self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-reliance - has

provided Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. with a proven framework for success.

As an outcome of Andrews work in the fields of rehabilitation, special education,

and adaptive outdoor programming, the MMATM—Education Project was

conceptualized and developed to educate the reader, how individuals with differing

abilities often do amazing things to overcome life’s many challenges!

While many children’s books focus on one type of special need, Meet Me At the

Mountain is the first book to highlight the extraordinary abilities of seven characters

(Emerald Eagle/Spiritual Leader, Rossi Raccoon/Blind, Jean Claude Jack Rabbit/Deaf,

Fiona Fox/Amputee, Big Max the Moose/ Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Caitlin Cougar/

Cerebral Palsy (CP), and Kodie Bear/Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) as they go on an inspiring

Illustrated Print | Sign Language | Braille/traditional format | Print/Braille Version

The animal characters in MMATM learn the importance of courage,

determination, persistence, teamwork and perseverance. This real climb to the top of

the mountain is also “metaphorical climb” showing how persons with differing abilities

often must overcome the adversity associated with unexpected life events. When the

animals finally reach the summit, it is all they dreamed and more! MMATM is a true

testament to the power of resilience. The characters discover how their affirmation of

hope and their enduring bond of friendship help them to achieve the final outcome --

Joy, Independence and Freedom!

Perhaps what is more compelling than the MMATM story is the fact that this

project was made possible by a team of extraordinary professionals who donated

thousands of hours of creative talents to produce the many formats. Andrews reveals,

“The story was written using a musical rhyme scheme to captivate the reader. My

purposeful choice of animal characters, highlighting both subtle and obvious physical

traits as well as interpersonal leadership attributes, helps to educate the reader about

the unique abilities of the characters.”

Barb Wallace, the illustrator, uses a watercolor medium with breathtaking

landscapes and beautifully detailed animals. In the Music version (DVD), Dick

Harrington and the Troublesome Creek String Band, playing Old Time Music with a

wonderful melody actually sing the story – helping to the characters come alive. Music

Production and Mixing was provided by Bobby Read. In the Sign Language version

(DVD), the story is told by Peggy Westfall, a Sign Language Interpreter using unique

interactive Quicktime video segments. Steven Collins uses creative interactive media

and layout design help to give life to Meet Me At The Mountain. With help from Ricki

Curry, the MMATM story has been transcribed and produced in a standard Braille

version and a Print/Braille version. And most recently, we are pleased to announce that

Meet Me At The Mountain is featured in the Recording for Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D)

The important messages conveyed in Meet Me At The Mountain need to be

shared! Andrews reports, “Our target audience is individuals, families, schools,

libraries, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, wounded warriors and disabled veterans

organizations and environmental organizations. Net proceeds from the sale of all

MMATM products (www.mmatm-dvd.com) provide scholarships for needy individuals to

participate in Therapeutic Adventures adaptive outdoor programs (a non-profit 501 (c)

(3) charitable education organization) (see www.TAonline.org) Andrews states, we are

also a 1% for the Planet - Member (see www.onepercentfortheplanet.org donating to

various non-profit environmental protection programs.”
